Feliz Natal, as they say in Portugal!
This week sees new draft lager Sagres brought to The Old School bar.
Imported via Heineken since 2008 the Portuguese brewery SCC (Sociedade Central de Cervejas) was founded on 1934 with the Sagres brand born in 1940, as a prestige beer. Sagres is named after a town of the same name, a small village located in the most south-westerly point of Europe.
Sagres lager is a pale lager, or ‘branca’, made of 100% natural product, brewed according to exclusive traditional methods with water, malt, cereals which have not been malted and a rigorous selection of the finest hops. No additives or preservatives are used in its brewing. Moderately rich, it has a dry and pleasantly bitter taste.
The brand is an established football sponsor with a long-term sponsorship deal with the Liga Portuguesa Futebol, the highest level of professional football in Portugal. As a result, the league is officially called Liga ZON Sagres. Sagres is also official sponsor of many a European team; Benfica, Braga, Olhanense and Académica Coimbra as well as official sponsor of the Portuguese National Team since 1993, with over 20 years of unconditional support.
We feel that the Sagres brand is well suited to our premises; not only for drinkers in the sports bar, but we are extremely fond of the robust pint glasses with their almost Bavarian ski resort feel. As our off duty management have tried and tested on its first night of installation, the glasses and the lager offer an instant Christmas cheer to the countdown week, ‘like boyfriend jeans' the universal chunky appeal, look, and particularly taste of the Sagres should sit well with all of our beer loving customers over the next few weeks. Get stuck in by the fire with Santa apparel welcome.
Happy Christmas from the Old School Inn. x
