Happy Birthday to us.......
To the left; existing restaurant and bar and to the right (side of fireplace/central to the building plan) new access to new restaurant and function space and raised gallery with outside access.
The Old School Inn have been working hard over the last eight months to transform what was the former and unused function room, into what will become the new restaurant space, predominantly for Friday and Saturday evenings and for Sunday lunch.
Three extensions to the former function space received planning permission last year which allowed the back of the building to benefit from glazed extension with raised patio access into the garden as well as extensions to facilitate new washrooms and more space to support kitchen requirements.
The new space will seat approximately 80, so a little more than the combined set –up we have in the existing space inclusive of diners being seated in the snug, which has always been a little tricky for people just wanting a drink and a seat. Plus in the new space we will be able to house larger booking of up to 20 with ease, either alongside one benched area or with the flexibility of the raised gallery area, leading out to the garden.
A more relaxed low seating area will be created in front of the concertina doors in the existing bar allowing customers views of the garden and in the summer better flow from outside to inside.
The changes will also see the menu alterations. Pub classics, the grill menu and little plates being available to eat in the bar areas at any time.
Whilst the new restaurant allows Head chef Daniel Sung to develop the modern European dishes from the current menu and then add in even more classic gastro treats showing off his world-wide experience and inclusive of his flair and love of fusion food.
Decor has been borrowed from the existing space, with modern and classical themes being mixed together. The emphasis has been on lighting where the space will benefit from some impressive classic fittings. The raised gallery area will have a modern solid and frame less glass balcony and a mix of solid oak flooring and tiles throughout. Colour schemes have been influenced by a contemporary palette to bring the whole scheme together, with two key portraits being the focus of the room.
The Old School team are really excited about the expansion, we have worked hard at the business and are very grateful to all the locals and regular customers who have supported us. The new space should be open in a matter of weeks and we are proud that this will coincide with our one year anniversary.
The room will also be able for hire for large private parties, alongside the current availability of the Sports bar.
